Marc Hein, Chairperson, Juristconsult Chambers
Founder and Chairman of Juristconsult Chambers, Marc counts more than 25 years’ experience in the legal sector having acquired substantial expertise in all aspects of the practice of law including corporate, commercial, financial and tax law. The former graduate of Gray’s School of Law (London) is rated by the specialised international publication, IFLR1000 Financial and Corporate, as the “leader of one of the most respected law firms in Mauritius”.
Marc was a Member of Parliament, Chairman of the Mauritius Bar Council, Chairperson of the National Economic and Social Council of Mauritius and Non- Executive Chairperson of the board of the Financial Services Commission. He was made ‘Grand Officer of the Order of the Star & Key of the Indian Ocean’ (‘GOSK’) for his contribution to the legal and financial sectors.
Johanne Hague, Head of Tax, Juristconsult Chambers
Johanne is a partner at the firm and heads the Tax practice. She holds a LLB in English and French law from King’s College London and a Maitrise en droits français et anglais from l’Université de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and is an English qualified solicitor. Prior to joining Juristconsult Chambers, Johanne worked at the London offices of J.P. Morgan Chase Bank and at magic circle law firm, Linklaters LLP.
She has considerable experience on tax legislation in the UK, Mauritius and a number of emerging markets and regularly advises on international aspects of cross-border transactions and structuring of investment funds, with particular focus on India and Africa-related transactions. She has developed expertise in the new FATCA and Common Reporting Standard legislation and regularly delivers tax training and seminars.
Yamini Rangasamy, Section Head of International Taxation, Large Taxpayer’s Department, MRA
Yamini is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants with several years’ experience at the Mauritius Revenue Authority. She is currently posted at the Large Taxpayers Department where she oversees the International Taxation Section. She was involved in the drafting of the CRS Guidance Notes and is now assisting the Mauritian delegation who is participating in BEPS work regarding the design of a Multilateral Instrument.
Rajesh Simhan, Partner and Head of the International Tax Practice, Nishith Desai Associates
Rajesh has graduated from the prestigious National Law School of India University, Bangalore, India. He has also done his LL.M in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center, Washington D.C.
Rajesh primarily advises clients on complex cross-border tax and corporate structuring transactions. He also has extensive tax litigation experience and has advised / represented clients at various levels, including the High Court and Supreme Court of India. He has also acted and advised on several cross-border mergers and acquisitions and has significant experience on private equity investments. He is often quoted in leading international publications and is also a regular speaker at various conferences, both in India and abroad.
Meyyappan N, Senior Associate, Nishith Desai Associates
Meyyappan has graduated from the National Academy for Legal Studies and Research University of Law, Hyderabad, India. He completed his Masters of Law (Commercial Laws) degree from the University of Cambridge.
Meyyappan has had extensive experience in advising clients on complex cross-border tax litigation. Prior to joining Nishith Desai Associates, he worked in the Chambers of Mr. Mohan Parasan, Solicitor General of India between 2010 – 2014; and was involved in some of the landmark international taxation disputes, direct and indirect taxation disputes and bilateral investment treaty disputes in India during the time.
Rajesh Ramloll, Chairman of International Fiscal Association, Mauritius Branch
Rajesh acts as Deputy Solicitor-General at the Attorney-General’s Chambers. He is a barrister-at-law and holds a specialist LLM in taxation from the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London. He is the current President of the International Fiscal Association, Mauritius Branch and is a member of the General Council of IFA.
He acts regularly for the Mauritius Revenue Authority before the Supreme Court in Mauritius and before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Rajesh has for the last ten years been involved in tax treaty negotiations. He regularly advises the Government on legal aspects of financial matters. He is also a tax assessor of the OECD Global Forum. He has been the treasurer of the Mauritius Bar Association. He regularly writes in International Tax Journals and is on the editorial committees of the IFA World Tax newsletter and the New Bar Chronicle (Mauritius).
