Arvin has been called to the Mauritius Bar in January 2008 after being ranked 1st at the 2005 Vocational Exams for Barristers.
Prior to joining Juristconsult Chambers, Arvin had his own legal practice between 2008 and 2010. Between 2010 and 2014, he was the Managing Director of NS Management Ltd, a corporate service provider, licensed as a management company, forming part of the Veling Group. Arvin was managing over 40 aviation-related companies. He gained considerable expertise in financial services regulatory, investment structures, asset finance and cross-border transactions besides the day-to-day administration of a management company. Arvin also acted as in-house legal counsel advising the group on sale and leaseback transactions, aircraft repossessions, aircraft structured finance and civil aviation regulatory matters.
Arvin’s practice covers all aspects of civil law with particular focus on corporate and commercial law, technology, media and telecommunications law, insurance law, taxation, asset finance, power projects, and intellectual property laws.
Arvin has a deep understanding of emerging technologies like FinTech, Blockchain and cryptocurrencies. He has been advising a number of international clients on the legal and regulatory aspects thereof.
Besides advisory and transactional work, Arvin has considerable experience in contentious matters covering all forms of dispute resolution, and in particular litigation in the civil and commercial courts. He regularly appears before all the civil courts in Mauritius, the Assessment Review Committee, and several tribunals including the Fair Rent Tribunal and the Environment and Land Use Appeal Tribunal.
Arvin is a registered trainer with the Mauritius Qualifications Authority and delivers regular trainings in areas like tax, FinTech, and banking law, both in public workshops and tailored-made seminars for specific client needs. Arvin also lectures, on a part-time basis, at the University of Mauritius, to undergraduate and MBA students, and to prospective law practitioners at the Council of Vocational and Legal Education.
Arvin speaks regularly at conferences, both locally and internationally on a wide range of subjects. He is often invited to speak at international law schools and universities. Arvin is also frequently asked to comment on legal issues by the local press and the media. He is a regular contributor to World Bank’s Doing Business project and has published several legal articles, both locally and internationally.
Arvin sits on the Bar Council of Mauritius since 2017.
Besides law, Arvin has a keen interest in business strategy and technology-driven innovations.
