Marc Hein SC, G.O.S.K., founder and Chariperson of Juristconsult Chambers was born and raised in Mauritius and is a graduate of Gray’s Inn School of Law in London. Mr. Hein started practising law in 1980 at the Chambers of Sir Raymond Hein, Q.C. joining then a practice dating since 1927. Mr. Hein was elected to the Mauritius Parliament in 1983 and was a member of Parliament until 1987. Marc Hein was also Chairman of the Mauritius Bar Council in 1992.

He established Juristconsult in 1989 which has been thriving since, as a leading business law firm.

“Amongst his various endeavours in both the legal and business world, Marc Hein is currently the Editor of the Mauritius Business Law Review. He is also the former non-executive Chairperson of the Financial Services Commission. He represented the Government of Mauritius in the privatisation of Mauritius Telecom, which is the largest ever privatisation in this part of the world.”

Marc Hein was appointed as the first Enforcer of the Global Finance Mauritius (GFM), which works with global investors, the Government and local institutions to promote and develop Mauritius as a transparent and well regulated jurisdiction.

He was also the Chairperson of the National Economic and Social Council of Mauritius (The “NESC”). In 2012, Marc Hein was appointed as Chairperson of the board of the Financial Services Commission (The “FSC”).

In 2013, on the occasion of the National Day, Marc Hein has been awarded the title of ‘Grand Officer of the Order of the Star & Key of the Indian Ocean’ (‘GOSK’) for his contribution to the legal and financial sectors. This honour, conferred by the President of the Republic of Mauritius is one of the highest award attributed to civilians for their contribution to society.

Marc Hein is consistently rated as a “leading lawyer” in IFLR1000 (Financial and Corporate) and IFLR1000 (Energy & Infrastructure).

Marc Hein has been elevated to the rank of Senior Counsel (SC) on 24 August 2016. This title is granted by Her Excellency the President of the Republic upon the recommendation of His Lordship the Chief Justice. The title rewards his long career and contribution to the legal profession nationally and internationally.

Rated by one specialised publication as the “Leader of one of the most respected law firms in Mauritius”, Marc Hein has acquired substantial expertise and experience in all aspects of the Practice of law whilst specialising in business law, including corporate, commercial, tax, mining, insolvency, and employment law.
